Reflection Paper: Mission

This is a captivating movie which is based on historical episode set upon the
borderland of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil in the year 1750. The movie sets out a great
and meaningful storyline about the life of missionaries. It is full of emotional depictions and
sentimental realities. As such, the story revolves around the life of missionaries ministering in
a dangerous mission field. Suffering, perplexities and danger are present in this place.
In this movie, it was based on the experience of the missionaries. They are not scared
to be the frontline in the mission field. In fact, their bravery and faithful obedience to preach
and reach out to the world is astonishing. Even in the midst of persecution and trying
moment, they never gave up.

Just like any other encounter in the mission field, there are sacrifices and
compromises to be made. Of course, the strategies and techniques employed are necessary to
fully accomplish the purpose of evangelism. Indeed, building up relationship with the people
is also important. Even though the people in that community are godless, cruel and bad, the
missionary did not give up. He was deeply compelled to do missions in a different land.

Along the way, he also communicates with the people. God truly sustains him and
preserves him for this noble purpose. Part of it is through befriending them and presenting
them his love for music where the people could relate and understand. As a pastor, humility is
very important.

As the local people understood and accepted the gospel, they became new converts.
They are greatly used by God to fulfill His purpose for their lives. The missionary even met a
lot of people in the village and even inside the prison. With the diversity of cultures, beliefs
and societal practices, God intervenes through the agency of His people.

The bottom line is the fulfilment of God’s purpose. The local people assisted in
building churches where they can worship God and continue to have fellowship with the

community of faith. It was such a miracle that needs obedience and full cooperation of the
people. Of course, the work of the Holy Spirit to keep them in the right path, and teach them
the way is also present.
