Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire

1. There is an old radio (which is made from wood, big and heavy), the people seem to be happy,
and there are not many things in the room, just a refrigerator, a table, and other things. The guy is
attentive to his wife.

2. The room has changed, it has an integrated kitchen (and before, there was a refrigerator that
was similar to a wardrobe or something like that but, after the change, the refrigerator is much
like the one we know nowadays) There is also a change in the way of dressing of the people.

3. Another change, there appears a microwave, a wall telephone and a camera (with a flashbulb).

4. Another change of the clothes of the people: the guy has a pipe and is concentrated in building
a model ship, he is basically ignoring his wife. The woman seems to be less happy and to have
problems, the daughter is playing with a hula hoop (at that time it was very popular).

5. There is something similar to a mini tv, the daughter has a hippie style.

6. More changes in the room (the style of the room is more natural, everything is made from wood
there are brown tapestries) the people are using green clothes.

7. The girl brings with her a little tv, there is a Trimline telephone on the wall, the people seem to
be more relaxed.

8. Another change, the room is more luxurious and modern (everything in white), the appliances
had changed to more modern ones.

9. The people seem to be high-class people with a luxurious and rigid life.

10. Finally, there is another change, the room now is very small, without many things, one girl is
wearing extravagant clothes. The woman does not seem to be happy.

situation to the one of Germany before the wall fell.

2. The reference to the Palestine war (because of the images of people grabbing the Palestinian
flag).

3. Reference to Exxon Valdez oil spill, which caused one of the worst human-caused environmental
disasters.

4. A reference to Stalinism.

5. A reference to the fall of the Berlin Wall

Gorky Park is located in Moscow. They mentioned many things about Moscow because they were
inspired to write this song after they play in the Moscow Music Peace festival and thousands of
Russians were cheering them on, even when they were Germans. This meant that there was an
internal change in the people, everyone was talking the same language (the language of music)
even when there were differences.
