JOURNAL #9

“ A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

Based on the video about dwarfism, it is not always right to judge the book by its
cover. People tend to judge people by the way they look physically.
In the video, both the students and the colleague of Ms. Brooks criticize her by
how she looks with regards to her height. Considering that her new students are
considered as the worst in the school, her colleagues were quite hesitant with her
capabilities to handle the class. They all immediately judge her because she
looks so short, even way much shorter than her students in her class. But in spite
of this criticism coming from everyone in the school, this does not hinder Ms.
Brooks to show what she got and show everyone else that she got what it takes
to handle her class and that she could manage them no matter how rowdy they
were.
In her first day of class she showed her students that being so short is not bad
and that being unique is a good thing. She didn’t stick to the traditional way of
teaching where the use of board and pen is involved, rather she ventured out and
explored new ways of teaching where students would be very much engaged and
also enjoy while learning. She believed that through her own way of teaching, her
students would learn effectively. Truly, in the end she was an effective teacher
because all her students passed the assessment test and even got a higher score
from the rest of the class in the school. Ms. Brooks has proved indeed that no
matter how small she is she could do great things and eventually influence
students.
