Neural and

Social Networks
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the module, you are expected to:
1. differentiate connections, relationships, and networks;
* explain connections, relationships, and networks
* utilize various social media regarding connections,
relationships, and networks in the 21st century
* value the connections, relationships, and networks in the
21st century
2. Illustrate how the brain or neural network works.

3
Network
group of individuals who collaborates with each
other to be able to achieve a purpose and
connection. It can be best described as work
team, meeting of learners of the same course
and profession, or any group who works
together for a common cause.
4
Connection
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary
connection is the act of connecting or the
state of being connected.
refers to something that joins two or more objects or
individuals. It also shows a situation wherein two or more
objects or individuals have a similar cause, goal, or origin.

5
6
Relationship
refers to the state or condition of being
connected; the way in which two or more
individuals or groups regard and behave
toward one another; the manner by which
two or more people, associations, or
countries deal with each.
7
Collaboration as a Vital Skill in the 21st
Century
Collaboration has become a 21st century
trend. The need in society to think and
work together on issues of critical
concern has increased, shifting the
emphasis from individual efforts to
group work, from independence to
community.
8
7 Reasons Why Collaboration is Important
 It helps us problem-solve
 Collaboration brings people (and organizations) closer
together
 Collaboration helps people learn from each other
 It opens up new channels for communication
 Collaboration boosts morale across your organization
 It leads to higher retention rates
 Collaboration makes us more efficient workers

9
Every individual is connected to each other.
Each one is like a unique thread in a
tapestry, with unique capacity to contribute to
the whole.
1. What does the statement tell us?
2. As a student, what are the unique traits that you should
possess in building connections and relationship?
3. Why collaboration is important in the 21st century world?

Neural
Networks

Many studies suggest that human brain can also
be described as a biological neural network. Neural
network serves as interconnections of web
neurons transmitting an elaborate pattern of
electrical signals.
12
BRAIN
The brain is an amazing three-pound
organ that controls all functions of the
body, interprets information from the
outside world, and embodies the
essence of the mind and soul.

FACTS ABOUT THE HUMAN BRAIN
▧ The human brain is the largest brain of all vertebrates
relative to body size
▧ It weighs about 3.3 lbs. (1.5 kilograms)
▧ The average male has a brain volume of 1,275 cubic
centimeters
▧ The average female has a brain volume of 1,131 cubic
centimeters
▧ The brain makes up about 2% of a human’s body weight

17
FACTS ABOUT THE HUMAN BRAIN
▧ The cerebrum makes up 85% of the brain’s
weight
▧ It contains about 86 billion nerve cells
(neurons)—the “gray matter”
▧ It contains billions of nerve fibers (axons and
dendrites)—the “white matter”
▧ These neurons are connected by trillions of
connections or synapses.

Artificial Neural
Networks
22
Artificial Neural Networks - is a special type of
machine learning algorithms that are modelled
after the human brain. It is composed of
connection, activation, propagation function and
network input, output function and learning
strategy.
