Course
outline
Dip. TESOL Course The ITTT Diploma course in TESOL is designed to be
taken by practicing teachers or those who wish to gain a
higher level of study, having already completed a
TEFL/TESOL certificate level course.

The course is arranged in 11 modules, listed on page 3,

each of which have three elements:

(i) Background introductory notes

These notes set the scene for the module and inform
the participant of what to expect in each module. This
element will require up to one hours work.

(ii) Guided study

In this element the participant is required to answer a
series of questions, through their own research,
primarily using the internet as a research tool and
occasionally referencing suggested texts. The
questions are designed to be challenging, as would be
expected at this level of study, and will require the
participant to study a number of different viewpoints on
the same topic.

The research study sheet in each module is followed by

a task sheet which asks specific questions on the
module contents. The answers from the research study
sheet should help you with the task sheet responses.

These two elements together will require up to eighteen

hours work.

(iii) Unit test

This will be a multiple choice test, but of a different type
than you may be familiar with. At this level of study we
will often be using higher order thinking skills rather
than just memorization of facts and therefore the
questions will ask you to analyze data or find
information on the internet.

All the multiple choice questions will be on topics you

have studied. The tests will require on average about
two hours work.

Final summative task

After completing all the test elements, you will
undertake a summative task which provides you with an
opportunity to show your understanding in a particular
area of the course. This will take the form of a 2,500
word research essay. The essay should take about 20
hours in total.

In total the course will take around 250 hours.
