INTRODUCTION
#WHAT IS KNIT DYEING?
Knit dyeing is a technique of dyeing the knitted
Fabrics.

:The dyeing of knitted fabrics occurs in the exhaust method or in

batch-wise process. Knit dyeing process is near similar to yarn
dyeing process but there is some difference in quality measurement.
Generally all types of single jersey, double jersey and their
derivatives are dyed by different way.
HISTORY & REVOLUTION
Knit dyeing industry has old history in Bangladesh. During the British
Colonial rule hand dyeing widely used in handloom industry. And then
Pakistani period modern dyeing facilities was started to composite mills
though were limited. Automatic and semi-automatic dyeing facilities
were set up in the private sector after 1976. The annual growth in the
semi-automatic dyeing units was 17.4% during 1976-83 and only 1.9%
during 1983-99. It was 6.3% for automatic dyeing units for the two
periods respectively. Manual dyeing still exists in the hand loom sub-
sector.
After 1980 readymade garments sector expanded rapidly. Garments
industry need huge knit dyed fabric. For fulfilling the demand of apparel
industry, knit dyeing industry are established rapidly. Maximum knit
dyeing mills are located in Narayongonj, Gazipur, Dhaka, Norshingdi,
Mymenshingh, Comilla, Chittagong and few are around the country.

Sequence of Operation for Knit Fabric Dyeing:
Batching:
❑ Grey fabrics are received from knitting
section
❑ These grey fabrics are batched depending
on shade, fabric types, quality etc.
❑ In batching section two types machines
are used.
Batching:

They are –
1. Turning machine
2. Plating machine
Dyeing:
When batching is completed, fabrics are
sent for dyeing.
In dyeing section, the machines which
are used they are divided into 3 parts
1. Pre-treatment
2. Dyeing
3. Post-treatment
Pre-treatment:
In pre-treatment section some
machines are used:
1. Grey Fabric inspection
machines
2. Gas singeing machines
3. Desizing machines
4. Scouring machines
5. Bleaching machines
6. Mercerizing machines
Dyeing:

In dyeing machines are used-

1. Winch Dyeing Machines
2. Jet Dyeing Machines
3. Sample Dyeing Machines
Finishing:
After dyeing there is done other operations for
finishing
For that the machineries are used-

1. Squeezing machine
2. Dewatering machine
3. Slitter machine
4. Dryer Machine
5. Stenter machine
6. Compactor machine
7. .Inspection machine
Quality section:
Dyed fabric sample are checked to maintain the quality of the
product in a quality section.
This is an important parts in dyeing factory
The machineries are used here-
1. Tumble dryer
2. Washing machine
3. Pilling tester
4. Abrasion tester
5. Fastness tester
6. Digital pipette
7. Digital weight box

Above all machineries are needed to set up for knit dyeing floor. If
anyone wants to set up a knit dyeing section in a dyeing factory, he has
to care about all this machines.
Current problems faced by the dyeing industries

• Short lead time

• Huge competitive market
• Most severe is the gas crisis, gas-pressure
falls about less than 10 psi.
Faults seen during finishing the knit dyeing
fabric:
➢ Skew,
➢ Slitting fault,
➢ Uneven brushing,
➢ Crease mark,
➢ Unwanted mark,
➢ Oil mark,
➢ Silicon spot,
➢ Line mark,
➢ Burning effect,
➢ Chemical spot,
➢ Sewding fault.
Remedies
➢ By ensuring even pretreatment.
➢ By ensuring even heat-setting in case of synthetic fibers.
➢ Proper dosing of dyes and chemicals.
➢ Proper controlling of dyeing m/c
➢ Use standard dyes and chemicals.
➢ Maintain the same liquor ratio.
➢ Follow the standard pretreatment procedure.
➢ Maintain the same dyeing cycle.
➢ Identical dyeing procedure should be followed for the
same depth of the Shade.
➢ Make sure that the operators add the right bulk
chemicals at the same time and temperature in the
process.
➢ The pH, hardness and sodium carbonate content of
