BakerRisk is an internationally

recognized firm dedicated to help EXPLOSION HAZARDS IN INDUSTRY

predict, prevent, and mitigate
Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk) works closely with industrial
hazards from explosions, fires, and
clients to identify potential explosion hazards in their facilities, develop credible and
toxic releases. Our staff is comprised worst-case accident scenarios, evaluate the consequences of accidental explosions, and
of highly qualified engineers and recommend prevention, mitigation, and protective measures to reduce the risk to personnel
scientists with a focus on explosion and other assets. BakerRisk utilizes state-of-the-art industry recognized methodologies of
effects, structural dynamics, process varying complexity depending upon the event to be considered.
safety, risk analysis, chemical hazards
testing, and explosion incident
investigation.

We promote and conduct research and

development to improve analysis and
prediction techniques, use published
analysis methods, and perform
experiments to characterize explosion
hazards. Risk analysis is utilized to
assess the probability that postulated
3-D Blast Wave Propagation (BWTI™)
accidents will occur and to predict
potential damage and injury levels.

PREDICTION METHODOLOGIES AND SOFTWARE
BakerRisk has developed prediction methodologies and software for evaluating explosion
scenarios and blast effects for situations involving vapor cloud explosions (VCEs) and
pressure vessel failures (BPVs), and boiling liquid expanding vapor explosions (BLEVEs).

BAKER-STREHLOW-TANG (BST)
BakerRisk developed and continuously refines the industry accepted vapor cloud explosion
/ blast load prediction method.

• Developed blast curves as well as methodology for their application

• Used for determining explosion energies, flame speeds, blast contours, building
damages, and occupant vulnerabilities
• Proprietary extensions to handle multi-zone and multi-PES situations
• Acceptable blast explosion methodology for performing studies in compliance with API
RP 752, 753, and 756
