PREDICTION METHODOLOGIES AND SOFTWARE
BakerRisk has developed prediction methodologies and software for evaluating explosion
scenarios and blast effects for situations involving vapor cloud explosions (VCEs) and
pressure vessel failures (BPVs), and boiling liquid expanding vapor explosions (BLEVEs).
BAKER-STREHLOW-TANG (BST)
BakerRisk developed and continuously refines the industry accepted vapor cloud explosion
/ blast load prediction method.
• Developed blast curves as well as methodology for their application
• Used for determining explosion energies, flame speeds, blast contours, building
damages, and occupant vulnerabilities
• Proprietary extensions to handle multi-zone and multi-PES situations
• Acceptable blast explosion methodology for performing studies in compliance with API
RP 752, 753, and 756
BLAST PREDICTION SOFTWARE
BakerRisk utilizes both in-house and commercial software to analyze and predict explosion
phenomena. Explosions from VCEs (including deflagration and detonation), BPVs, BLEVEs,
and runaway reactions can all be calculated and analyzed for structural components and
buildings responses.
In-house Software
• SafeSite3G® — ability to assess a variety of typical industrial explosion hazards,
including BPVs, BLEVEs, TNTs, VCEs using BST methodology, and VCEs derived from
TNO MEM.
• BWTI™ — for numerical modeling of bursting pressure vessels and vapor cloud
explosion blast waves and their interaction with structures and obstacles.
Commercial Software
tool for the modeling of ventilation, gas dispersion, prediction, and consequence
analysis of vapor cloud explosions and blasts in complex process areas, both onshore
and offshore.
