A. John Locke – The Empiricist


 Locke called the empiricist because of his belief that knowledge was
founded in empirical observation and experience.
B. Herbert Spencer – The Utilitarianist
 Spencer associated with Utilitarianism Education because he developed an
evolutionary utilitarian ethics in which the principles of ethical living are
based on the evolutionary changes of organic development.
C. John Dewey – experience
 John Dewey believes that education is not a preparation for life but life
itself that is why he is related to the word experience because he believe
that experience is the best teacher.
D. George Counts – building a new social order
 Because, Counts wrote a number of scholarly books that contributed to the
social study of education and stressed teaching as a moral and political
activity. He is also an activist who thought that schools should bring about
social change.
E. Theodore Brameld – the Social Reconstructionist
 Brameld, because of his reaction about the realities of World War II he
recognized the threat of human annihilation that is why he believed the
creation of a new social order through education that would help fulfill the
peaceful modern world.
F. Paulo Freire – Critical Pedagogy vs. Banking Method
 Freire compared Critical Pedagogy and Banking Method and he choose
critical pedagogy because it utilizes dialogue among human beings who
are equals rather than oppressive imposition.
