(Morga) on the early Filipino religious or spiritual traditions.

Among the peoples of Luzon and Visayas, there were early Filipino beliefs and
forms of devotion. The early Filipino beliefs and practices of worship among the
peoples of Luzon and Visayas are remarkably similar, yet they differ and evolve
with time. Animism was practiced in parts of Luzon and the Visayas. Animism is
the concept that various objects, places, and creatures have distinct spiritual
properties. It is the oldest and most primordial form of belief, with people
identifying their world with spirits rather than deities. Ancient Filipinos also
practiced mysticism through the usage of spirits, and this sort of mystic
activity was referred to as shamanism, a primordial form of occult practice.
Special persons known as Babaylan were needed to harness this power; these people
were the equivalent of shamans, and they were the principal conduit between the
spiritual realm and the material plane.
