Letter “e” before viewing

Sketch of the letter e using the LPO. Sketch of the letter e using the HPO

GUIDE QUESTIONS: Be concise in answering the following questions.

Rubric for the 1st three questions and Q5:

2 points- if the response is correct
0 point- if the response is incorrect

1. What happens to the position of letter e when viewed under the microscope? Is it the same as when viewed
with the naked eye or is it inverted? (2 points)

The position of the letter e tends to become inverted and upside down whenever it is viewed under the
microscope.

2. When you move the slide to the left, in which direction does the letter image appear to move? (2 points)

The letter e moves to the opposite direction whenever the slide is moved. In this case, e switches to the right if
the slide is situated in the left.

3. When you move the slide towards you, in which direction does the letter image appear to move? (2 points)

The direction of the letter e tends to move upwards whenever the slide is moved towards the observer which is
downwards.

4. Explain your observations on the three questions above. (3 points)

Rubric
3 points-Explanation is clear with correct supporting details.
2 points- Explanation is somewhat clear with few correct supporting details.
1 point- Explanation is vague with no supporting details.

Whenever the slide is moved towards a certain direction in the microscope’s stage, the test subject or in this case, the
letter e, shifts to the direction opposite to what has been done in the slide. This results to the inverse proportionality
between the direction of the slide’s movement and the direction in where the test subject moves toward.

5. When you shift to HPO, what happens to the letter image? How about the field of view? ( 2 points)

The letter image: The view of the letter image tends to be larger and therefore, making it easier and more detailed to
examine and analyze.

Field of view: The image’s field of view decreases, making it smaller than the Scanning and LPO lenses counterparts.

6. What is the total magnification of your microscope when the given objective is in place?
(1point each= 1x4= 4 points). Do not forget to put “x” beside the total magnification value. No x=0.5 point.

Scanner 40x
Low Power Objective (LPO) 100x
High Power Objective (HPO) 400x
Oil Immersion Objective (OIO) 1000x
