4 ORDER FOR PERSON WITH DISORDER

SCOLIOSIS

Scoliosis is when the vertebrae form a curved line instead of being straight. Sometimes they also rotate
(twist), like a corkscrew. Small curves usually don't cause problems. But a curve that gets worse can be
bad for a person's health. Very large curves can damage the joints and cause arthritis of the spine.

CURE:

coliosis treatments vary, depending on the severity of the curve. Children who have very mild curves
usually don't need any treatment at all, although they may need regular checkups to see if the curve is
worsening as they grow. Bracing or surgery may be needed if the spinal curve is moderate or severe.

PREVENTION MEASURES:

In patients with idiopathic scoliosis, the cause of the condition is unknown. Degenerative scoliosis
happens over time as the body ages. It is important to keep up with a regular low impact aerobic and
core strengthening exercise program.

DOWN SYNDROME

Down syndrome is a condition in which a baby is born with an extra chromosome. The extra
chromosome causes delays in the way a child develops, mentally and physically. The physical features
and medical problems linked to Down syndrome can vary widely from child to child.

CURE:

Down syndrome cannot be cured. Early treatment programs can help improve skills. They may include
speech, physical, occupational, and/or educational therapy. With support and treatment, many people
with Down syndrome live happy, productive lives.

PREVENTION MEASURES:
There's no way to prevent Down syndrome. If you're at high risk of having a child with Down syndrome
or you already have one child with Down syndrome, you may want to consult a genetic counselor before
becoming pregnant

ALBINISM

Albinism is an inherited condition that leads to someone having very light skin, hair, and eyes. It happens
because they have less melanin than usual in their body. Melanin gives skin, hair, and eyes their color.
Except for vision problems, most people with albinism are just as healthy as anyone else.

CURE:

Because albinism is a genetic disorder, it can't be cured. Treatment focuses on getting proper eye care
and monitoring skin for signs of abnormalities. Your care team may involve your primary care doctor and
doctors specializing in eye care (ophthalmologist), skin care (dermatologist) and genetics.

PREVENTION MEASURES:

Albinism cannot be prevented, as it is an inherited (genetic) condition rather than an illness. Gene
testing can be used to determine if a fetus has albinism.
