“UGLIEST REALITY OF WOMEN”

One of the ugliest realities in our society is the sexual harassment against women to
which this offensive act can be done anywhere, particularly in our homes, universities, public
street, and workplaces. Though we already started to take a step in preventing it, women still
face this sexual harassment showing our country made very little progress for the country.

Different universities and organizations have conducted studies that show results that
women are still experiencing these acts. Statistical results of sexual harassment have shown this
little progress in our country. According to the result of a survey by the Social Weather Station
and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality, “The result revealed that three in five women
have experienced being sexually harassed”. This kind of statistic is more likely to be understated,
which shows that our system cannot easily encourage women to report such sexual harassment
experienced by them. Thus, a woman in our generation is more likely to feel difficulty in stating
their experience. This is because of the fear that they may face consequences from the person
who did it to them or the feeling of embarrassment to admit that they are victims of sexual
harassment.

However, our country still has enough laws to take action against this sexual harassment.
Among these laws, there is one law that can help with coping with the problem against women.
Sexual harassment doesn’t disappear on its own and this is an effective weapon against it.
Having a law like this does not mean that there will be no fully sexual harassment. It will serve
to assist in preventing harassment and supporting women who step up and ensure that their
experiences are addressed quickly and effectively. We may have a strong mechanism in place to
stop sex offenders but what our country needed for solving the little progress our country is to
gain improvement in taking action with these laws. Building campaigns to inform women about
their rights can also be a way to lessen the number of sexual harassment victims in the country.
Through these actions, we can give ideas and information to the individuals which for men to be
educated about how sexual harassment can affect women. Along with the benefits that women
can gain in increasing their confidence to report the sexual harassment that they have
experienced from someone.
