Agenda: - Illegal military trade

INFRASTURE

Afghanistan is a country long-related to the topic of illegal military trade because of terrorist
groups; majorly Taliban and ISKP. They have made the country appear in headlines
internationally for many years. Abandoned foreign military camps with weapons are the
treasure house for terrorist groups as they contain small arms, rifles, snipers, Etc., which
help them in a very unique way to succeed in combat against our defense forces such as
ANA, ANP & ANDSF. Between February 2019 and July 2021, field investigation teams
have physically documented more than 1,600 weapons and 1,300 rounds of ammunition,
including weapons used in high profile terrorist attacks claimed by both the Taliban and
ISKP. The teams also documented seized night vision equipment, riflescopes, and explosive
material used in the production of IEDs. equipment seized by the ANDSF from the Taliban,
Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), criminal networks, and other illegal armed groups
operating in Afghanistan. My country has signed many treaties to put a seize on illegal
military trades in the country such as: -
 Arms trade treaty
 Convention of Cluster Munitions etc.

EFFECTS OF
MILITARY TRADE

 Furthermore, illegal military trade undermines the international efforts to combat

terrorism and organized crime, as these groups often rely on the black market to
acquire weapons. It also diverts resources from much-needed social and economic
development programs, and can contribute to human rights abuses.
 Illegal sale and trafficking of weapons fuels armed conflicts and perpetuates a cycle
of violence, hindering the ability of our government to effectively provide safety and
well-being of our citizens.
RESOLUTIONS

 Afghanistan supports stricter regulations and enforcement on the international arms

trade, as well as increased cooperation between nations to track and disrupt illegal
arms trafficking networks. We also call for greater support for disarmament,
demobilization, and reintegration programs to reduce the number of weapons in
circulation.

CONCLUSION

 As a nation that has suffered greatly from the consequences of illegal military trade,
Afghanistan stands ready to work with the international community to combat this
threat and promote peace and security for all.
