Types of Private Schools


1. Reggio-Emilia: The child learns through “hundreds of
languages” and “grows in relation to others.”
2. Play-Based: Balance teacher-led and student-led activities.
3. Montessori: Self-directed, hands-on, trained teachers,
age-appropriate activities.
4. Immersion: Taught in languages other than English.

Types of Ongoing Schools


1. Traditional: Focused on acquisition of skills/knowledge,
direct instruction, single curriculum for all with some tracking.
2. Progressive: Inquiry- or project-based, interdisciplinary,
focused on the whole child, often a focus on social justice.
3. Balanced: Includes elements of both traditional and
progressive approaches- varies from school to school.
