Lesson Focus:

Structure / Activity

● Greetings.
● Warm up: Play the game! Colour the wall-U9/Who’s that?-U10
● Play CD1 Track 11 several times to give learners time to colour all the boxes. Pause between each
line as necessary.
● Teacher writes a list of the names of the family members - students guess who I am.
● Students will take turns guessing the family member.
● Learner writes a list of the names of the people in their family (including themselves) on the board.
● In pairs, learners ask and answer each other about the names.
● In Reading and Writing Part 2, learners need to understand sentences that describe (or don’t
describe) a particular scene picture. They need to practice matching sentences to different
pictures and they also need training in spotting words that make sentences incorrect
( prepositions of place, numbers, adjectives, etc).
● In Reading and Writing Part 1, the pictures will show one or more of each named item and, in the
defining sentence, the named item will be singular or plural.


● Learners are going to listen to an audio track 10. (Practice exercises from the Student’s Book)

ix - six, mix
Lesson Focus:
● Discover and strengthen the connections between sounds (phonemes) and the letter or groups of
letters (graphemes) that represent those sounds.
● Introducing students to the concept of short vowels and blending letters together to create
words.
● This short vowel sound will help the students practice identifying pictures, reading and learning
words with the initial and medial short /i/ sounds. It’s easier for the students learning phonics to
isolate the initial and medial sound in a word.
Structure / Activity

● Greetings.
● Warm up: Use Phonics Cards to review the sounds and words in Units 1-4.
● Play CD2 Tracks 2-6/7-10/11-16
● Point to the pictures in a different order and have students say the words.
Repeat and increase your speed.
● Have to repeat the words, repeat as time permits and students chant along.
● Paired reading. Have student pairs take turns reading key words.
● Have students do the exercises on their own (classwork+homework+weekly quiz).
● After students have completed exercises, check their answers.
● If time permits, divide the class into two teams. Have the teams line up in front of the board.
Say a key word and have the first student in each line race to the board to write the word.
Continue until everyone has had a chance to write.
