Task 1: Reflection Writing

  Guide questions:

1. Which general or worldview philosophy best fits with your own views of reality? Why?

For me, Progressivism is the philosophy that fits my views in reality. Why? Because we’re
living in the 21st century now, we need to “update” our teaching method. Instead of the
teacher just talking in front for an hour in the classroom students should become the center
of gravity; Students should learn discovery learning, and learning how to learn. The teacher
is no longer the only one in charge of the learning but everyone in the classroom, teacher is
now only the facilitator, he or she is no longer the know it all person who comes to teach
and everyone else sits, listens, and learns. The educators teach children how to think rather
than relying on note memorization. The teachers put emphasis on real-world problem-
solving and individual development. As a future educator, I want my students to have input
on what they are learning and I do believe in learning by doing and by experience because
when a student can relate to what you teach them; they are more likely to understand well
and they enjoy what they are taught.

2. What have you learned from the history of education that is related to these metaphysical
philosophies?

I have learned that all metaphysical philosophies have concerned with the nature and aims
of education and the philosophical problems arising from educational theory and practice.
It helps me to understand and to modify the educational process.

3. It is said that an image is worth a thousand words. What might be your image metaphor for
each of these world or metaphysical philosophies?

My image metaphor in this world is “learning by doing”, The basic tenet of learning by doing
is that as we perform an action, we can learn more about it. Contrary to popular belief, the
"learning by doing" paradigm is a considerably more flexible and adaptable teaching
instrument. There are methods to use the underlying fundamentals of this approach to make
learning deeper, more effective, and more memorable in a variety of contexts, including skill
development, self-growth, and pure theory. The key is to be adaptable when using the word
"doing," which doesn't always mean pure practice but rather connotes a close personal
connection to the subject of study and constant reflection on the learning process.
