SAMANTHA LOH 10 - POPE FRANCIS

A DISORDER OF THE ENDOCRINE

SYSTEM

GOITER

A goiter may be an overall enlargement

of the thyroid, or it may be the result of
irregular cell growth that forms one or
more lumps (nodules) in the thyroid.

HOW AND WHY DO WE MANIFEST THIS DISEASE?

Iodine deficiency is the most common

cause of goiter. The body needs iodine
to produce thyroid hormone. If you do
not have enough iodine in your diet, the
thyroid gets larger to try and capture
all the iodine it can, so it can make the
right amount of thyroid hormone.
PREVENTION: Consuming CURE:
a diet that includes fish,
Radioactive
dairy and a healthy
amount of iodized table iodine
salt prevents these types treatment
of goiters.
