As such they must be able to find & identify different types of information in a
variety of formats and media like radio, television, News paper, journals, Internet,
articles etc.
Information Resources
1. Primary Literature- Scientific Journals and articles
2. Secondary Literature - Textbooks, digests
3. Pharmaceutical Databases -MEDLine, EMBASE
4. Pharmacopoeias - API
5. Formularies- AFI
6. Special Information Sources( DDR) SIS
1. Primary Literature
Scientific journals are the primary literature of pharmaceutical sciences
through which scientific researches are reported , evaluated, and
disseminated.

These are produced in printed as well as electronic form. Likewise-

choice to consult for locating pharmaceutical literature of the hundreds of databases
available.

Particularly internet websites to pharmacists & pharmaceutical scientists - MEDLINE,

EMBASE, BIOSIS, Chemical abstracts, International pharmaceutical abstracts.

MEDLINE- MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine(NLM) premier

bibliographic database that contains more than 25 million references to journal
articles in life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine. A distinctive feature
of MEDLINE is that the records are indexed with NLM (MeSH). MEDLINE is the
online counterpart to MEDLARS (MEDical Literature Analysis and Retrieval
System) that originated in 1964.
4. Pharmacopoeias
Pharmacopoeias include information regarding official Standards for
purity, strength , quality & analysis of drugs as well as these therapeutic uses.
