Datasheet
Datasheet
Last two weeks: simulations to compare two operational amplifiers
⇒ Not the real way of designing a circuit
Design starts with search for devices fit for the application
⇒ Involves lots of datasheet reading
A datasheet is a document written by a component manufacturer and describing a component

Wants you to use the device May contain error(s)

⇒ Sees datasheet as an Ad. Be careful with
but price doesn’t appear Preliminary datasheets
anywhere

Electronics: One-size-fits-all device = chimera

! Need to compare performances between manufacturers
! No widely-used cross-manufacturer comparison tool
! Lots of reading is necessary
! Final choice = compromise

Datasheets are semi-consistent in format and most of the time, the first page
contains at least the following sections:
Manufacturer/Device name
Features
Applications
General description

Look at the AD797 and AD829 datasheets

♦ Find out about noise performance

♦ How is the noise specified? What is important in a noise specification?

♦ Find out about speed performance

♦ Assuming an application where noise is a issue, which device is the best?

♦ What if speed is a issue, which one is the best?

♦ Compare with your simulation results and comment.

► Do a transient analysis with a step of 1V and observe how the shape of the
output change when the value of C1 and C2 is changed (keeping C2=10C1)
► Comment on what you observe
► Connect the shaper at the output of the photodiode preamplifier, run a noise
simulation and observe the effect of the change of C1 and C2 on the noise
response (you can run a transient analysis to observe the change on the
output signal too)
► Conclusion?
