CHAPTER FIVE

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECCOMENDATION

5.1 Introduction

This chapter summarizes the whole research process. A brief summary of the whole study

is given. It also provides a summary of the main findings of the study, conclusions of the

study, recommendations and suggestions for further research.

5.2 Summary

Chapter one presented the background to the study, statement of the problem, four

objectives that served as a guide to the study were set based on the PowerPoint

Competencies needed by OTM final students for modern Job Opportunity in Kano State.

Related to this research question. Significance of the study was stated, basic assumptions

made and finally, the scope and delimitations of the study were highlighted.

Chapter two looked at the framework on which the research will be based. The

theoretical framework chosen for the study consists of a theory, the theory base on

Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which was propounded by (Davis, Bagozzi and

Warshaw 1989). A basic assumption of technology acceptance model of attributions is to

explain computer usage behaviour.

Again the chapter looked at the literature review that addressed challenges/risks

associated with the use of powerpoint in OTM programme, advantages of presenting

lecture through powerpoint, benefits of using powerpoint and strategies for effective

constructing of powerpoint as an instructional tool and disadvantages of presenting

lecture through powerpoint. Key concepts such business education, educational

technology, origin of powerpoint and cultural impact of powerpoint.

Chapter three presented the methodology adopted for the study. The study adopted the

Expo Factor Design. Population of the study consists of all OTM Students in Social and

Management Sciences in Kano State Polytechnic, Kano State. Data for the research were

collected through administration of Likert Scale questionnaire to Fifty (50) OTM students

of the Social and Management Sciences department. Survey research design was adopted

for the study and data was collected using a researcher designed questionnaire which

contained Eight (8) items.

Chapter four presented data collected from the field. The data gathered were analysed

using the mean to answer research questions, mean above 2.5 were accepted likewise

mean below 2.5 were rejected. Finding from this study among others revealed that, all the

dependent variables have high and positive influence on business education students for

them to be self reliance and towards their movement to the business world.

Chapter five look at the findings of this study, it was recommended that Management

should make adequate budgetary provision for procurement of facilities such computers,

projectors, uninterrupted power supply units and smart board enhance the acquisition of

the skills by students. Management should encourage lecturers should organize training

programmes from time to time to acquaint teachers with the state-of-the-art technology.

5.2 Conclusion

From this study it was concluded that PowerPoint presentation will be beneficial for

effective teaching and learning of OTM courses in tertiary Kano State Polytechnic, Kano

State.

 It was also concluded that use of PowerPoint presentation will be beneficial to the
extent that Management provides enabling environment and provide adequate
funding to acquire the necessary information and communication facilities
required for full implementation of PowerPoint presentation.
 It was also concluded that training of staff or lecturers will enhance use the
application or utilization of PowerPoint as an instructional tool.
 It is also concluded that the use of PowerPoint will be enhance learning to the
extent that teacher show greater and adequate attention to pedagogical options or
issues such as preparation of good slides and spends adequate time in educating
OTM final year students on best to benefit from the technology.
5.3 Recommendation

On the bases of the findings of this study and the conclusions drawn there from, the

following recommendations are considered necessary. Management of Kano State

Polytechnic should be more seriousness with implementation of PowerPoint presentation

by providing enabling environment for implementation of PowerPoint presentation.

Management should make adequate budgetary provision for procurement of facilities

such computers, projectors, uninterrupted power supply units and smart board.

Management should encourage lecturers should organize training programmes from time

to time to acquaint teachers with the state-of-the-art technology. Teachers on their part

should prepare and review adequately their slides before classroom presentation.

Teachers should exercise caution in the application of PowerPoint mechanism to ensure

that students see it as an instructional technique and not as an entertainment tool.
