Indoor Cat Crochet presents:

The Cat Butt Coasters

Abbreviations:
mc = magic circle (if you do not know how to do a magic circle, I follow this
method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEq48ABHRZo)
ch = chain
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
slst = slip stitch
FO = fasten off
Supplies:

-Any kind of worsted weight yarn will suffice (the stock photos included
multiple brands of yarn and each turns out similar in size, so no worries!)
-You will need a light pink for the middle, and then any color you’d like the
cat(s) to be! I personally modeled mine after my best friend’s cats =)
-H hook (5.0mm hook) *Note: if you use a different weight of yarn please
change your hook size accordingly!
-Needle for sewing in ends
-Optional: stitch marker

Notes:

-Gauge is not overly important. My coasters typically turn out to be 4.25” in

diameter. However, if you do have a tight gauge, your cat tail may curl a bit and
will need to be blocked (refer to this video to learn how to block if you are
unfamiliar with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRDFcEgtqZM)
- To change the color: I do so by pulling a ch through the loop that is currently
on your hook after completing the slst (see pic below in round 2).
-Each new round starts with a ch 2, this DOES NOT count as a stitch
-Do not turn the work unless told to do so
-If you are a beginner and unfamiliar with working in the round, I suggest using
a chain marker so you can keep track of the beginning of your current row. Once
you start a new round, move the stitch marker up to the round you are actively
working on.
Pattern:

Round 1: With the light pink, create mc, ch 2, 6 hdc. Join ends with slst. (6 st)

Round 2: Change to your new color, ch 2, then 2 hdc in your 1st st, then 2 hdc in
each remaining st. Join with slst. (12 st)
Round 3: Ch 2, then 1 hdc in 1st st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in the next st* repeat*
until end. Join with slst. (18 st)

Round 4: Ch 2, then 1 hdc in each of the first 2 st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each
of the next 2 st* repeat* to end. Join with slst. (24 st)

Round 5: Ch 2, then 1 hdc in each of the 1st 3 st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each
of the next 3 st * repeat* until end. Join with slst. (30 st)
Round 6: Ch 2, then 1 hdc in each of the 1st 4 st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in each
of the next 4 st* repeat* until end. Join with slst. (36 st)

To make tail: stay attached with the slst from the previous Round.

Ch 14. In 2nd ch from hook, dc (this will make the top of the tail round like a cat
would have). Dc in each of the next 4 st, 2 dc in next st, then dc in last 7 st.
(14 st)

To fully attach the tail to the cat: skip the st next to your ch, then slst in the next
st and FO.
To make the feet:

Row 1: Count 12 st from where you ended your tail. Then, with a ch connected
to your hook, pull a loop through and make 1 sc (see pics below). Continue with
3 sc. (4 st)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 4 sc. (4 st)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 4 sc. FO if you prefer a stumpy looking cat like I do. If you
want a taller cat, continue on to the next optional row. (4 st)

Row 4 (optional): Ch 1, turn, 4 sc. FO. (4 st)

To make the next foot: go 4 st away from the foot you just finished and follow
the exact same process as before. (Rows 1 – 3 or 4).
Weave in all your ends (you can weave in the ends throughout, I am lazy and
wait until the end!). Now you have an adorable cat butt! =)
