The Care and Feeding of A Candle

Owen Cayton, Senior Minister pastor@fcc-stillwater.org
Children are so cool! I love hearing Toviel and Mattai talk about God when we are at home, about what they learn in Sunday School and Childrens Worship and Wonder. I love asking them questions about why they believe what they do and hearing their explorations. Sharing in the Pastors class is always a great experience hearing the childrens fresh perspectives on God. Is it any wonder that Jesus said, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it? Adults are pretty cool too! I think about all those who have shared their faith with me, those that I have looked up to and from whom I have learned the faith. As a minister, I am consistently fed by people who are examples of deep and extreme faithfulness to me in prayer, in generosity, in their understandings of God, in the questions they raise, and in the life they lead. They demonstrate to me what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul observes the passing on of faith in his letter to Timothy, I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, lives in you. And then there are youththeyre pretty cool as well! Who could argue that the youth who attended Mission Camp do not have a sense of faith and what it means to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ? The Bible speaks of youth as a place of strength, life and vitality. I recently read that the church is quite possibly the only place left in our culture where there is ongoing interaction between multiple generations. As I think about it, it rings true. There was even a time in our history when multiple generations of a family would live in one household. That is now a big exception to the rule. Certainly there have been reasons for this change, perhaps many positive reasons. Yet I cant help but wonder what we have lost in all this. As I watch trends and read about different churches, I cant help but be afraid that even the Church is becoming segregated by generation. That is why I am excited as we prepare for Wednesday Night Fellowship, beginning on September 7. I am excited because we are going to have an intergenerational learning experience. We are going to learn from each other and learn with each other. We are going to share with each other our understandings of life and faith. I hope that you will come and be a part of the Hometown Nazareth experience! CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS

Sondra Ladd, Children/Youth Ministry Director youth@fcc-stillwater.org

BACK TO SCHOOL! BACK TO LUNCHTIME WITH SONDRA! Back to school means its for Lunchtime With Sondra! Watch for her on Tuesday at the Middle School and Thursday at the Junior High. If you are in High School, invite your friends and show up at FCC each Wednesday for SHS lunch! Everyone, Thank You For the Mission Camp Success! Thank you for such an amazing outpouring of hospitality for Mission Camp. There is not enough room to mention the time, talents and gifts that were donated by members of this congregation. Many people contributed life jackets, blankets, ice chests and equipment. Several people helped with team building activities. Many helped with registration for weeks before camp. I dont even know how many people were helping in the kitchen for lunch and delivering popsicles. Every day we had more than enough help to finish the tasks in a record amount of time. I also want to brag on the leadership skills of the people in this congregation - Chuck Willoughby who led the kitchen crew and Kenda Baker who organized the hospitality crews. They all went above and beyond any expectations. There is no way to thank each individual this was truly a congregational effort. THANK YOU TO EACH AND EVERY ONE WHO CONTRIBUTED IN ANY WAY. Home From Camp Dry Gulch! 33 campers along with Rick and Sondra attended Dry Gulch, July 30-Aug. 3. In my opinion it was the best year ever. In spite of the heat, we all had an amazing time enjoying the activities that Dry Gulch offers. We have an amazing group of children at FCC, and it was a true blessing to spend a week hearing their laughter, seeing their smiles and watching them grow in their faith. Please take time to stop at the bulletin board and check out the photos to be on display very soon. Ready for an Adventure?!! Have you ever dreamed of visiting the Holy Land? In Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus Was a Kid, youll travel back into Bible times without setting foot outside our community!
