Glasgow Elks Lodge #1922 recently applied for and
was awarded a $2,000 Gratitude Grant from the Elks
National Foundation.
As the name implies, as a sign of gratitude, every
Lodge that met the Grand Exalted Ruler’s per-member-
giving goal to the Elks National Foundation in the
prior fiscal year is eligible to apply for a $2,000 grant.
Glasgow Elks members donated over the goal amount,
so we were eligible this year!
The grant must be used for a local charitable
purpose and can’t be used to update the Lodge facilities
or pay bills.
Glding through So, with our Gratitude Grant, Glasgow Lodge chose
the short to donate the proceeds to the Valley County Food Bank
to help them out with purchasing additional food and
month so far supplies for the Food Bank. With the cost of food and
goods being what it is these days, every dollar counts.

Hudyma scores a double-double

They have some momentum going into the final
weekend of the regular season. That has the Glasgow
Scotties playing some good ball now and hopefully
they can continue this weekend. Glasgow will host
Harlem (2-14, 1-6) tonight for Senior-Night and travel
to Poplar for the finale.
Harlem had erased a 13-point deficit in the
fourth quarter to get its first win of the season in an
earlier meeting with the Scotties. Glasgow then came
out the next night to down Poplar.
Two more wins this weekend would help the
Scotties going into the District 2B Tournament that
will be held in Malta next week.
The Scotties (7-9, 1-5) picked up two non-
conference wins over two Class C teams that have in
the past handled the red and white. North Country has
been reloading the past two years after losing some key
players. The Mavericks are young with mostly freshmen
and sophomores on the roster. Scobey-Opheim has
also been a powerhouse in the past, winning two
straight state championships. The Spartans also lost
key personnel and are reloading.
Glasgow had very little trouble in handling the
Mavericks in a 67-31 win Thursday night on Nemont
TV. The Scotties came back Saturday night to flex their
muscles on Nemont TV, once again, downing the
Spartans in Scobey, 54-40.

Yikes! ~ Virgil Vaupel
Large cement companies in the east are buying
their fly ash from China, Poland and India. In 2015
there was only one container filled with fly ash delivered
to a port in Virginia. It came from India. In 2022 there
were 22 containers of fly ash delivered to that same
port and shipped from Poland and India. The west
coast is the ‘beneficiary’ of fly ash from China.
The DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality)
has ordained that coal ash is a toxic waste material but
they have completely ignored the fact that coal ash
is also a material that has “beneficial uses”. So rather
than the recommendation by the DEQ of “Closure by
Removal” why not introduce legislation that classifies
the coal ash as something of “beneficial use” and start
selling the product.
Kevin Stone of the DEQ told me that the owners
of the Colstrip coal ash could sell it if they wanted but
so far they haven’t indicated such. Stone mentioned
that the DEQ has control of what the Colstrip owners
