1. Define:

a) Space: - Space refers to the distance among and around furniture and objects and their proportions
within a room. 

b) Differentiate between positive and negative space with examples: - Positive space is where the
room’s objects – such as a sofa and armchairs – are positioned, while negative space refers to the gaps
in between, and includes circulation space for navigating through the room, as well as the areas left
open to prevent the room from feeling cluttered.

c)Give 1 advantage of more negative space: - One of the benefits of negative space is that it helps show
importance and directs attention.

d) Give 1 disadvantage of more negative space: - Your audience is distracted, and your design is
ineffective.

e) Give 1 advantage of too much positive space: -

f) Give 1 disadvantage of too much positive space: - A room with too much positive space taken up can,
on the other hand, feel crowded and over-furnished. 

2. Explain the functions of the following lines:

a) Horizontal lines, such as those of tables:- Horizontal Lines bring a sense of stability to an interior. They
can also make a room feel wider. 

b) Vertical lines such as windows and doors or maybe a tall fireplace: -Horizontal lines are valued for
giving a feeling of freedom and can make a room seem taller.

c)Dynamic lines such as diagonals, zigzags and curves could come from a feature such as a staircase: -
Dynamic lines are eye-catching and they inject a scheme with energy.

a) What is 'form' and what does it include? Form is shape, and that includes the shape of the room itself
along with the objects within it like furniture, artwork and decorative accessories. 

b) Differentiate between geometric and natural shapes. Geometric shapes have precise angles and lines
where as natural forms have a curvaceous piece
c) What is the function of balance and natural shapes? Balance and natural shapes can bring softness to
an interior.

4. Explain the function of the following lights:

a) Artificial lights: - Artificial light comes from the room’s ambient or background lighting.

b) Accent lighting: - The accent lighting that draws attention to objects or features.

c)Task lighting: - The task lighting that makes a kitchen safe for food preparation.

d)Office desk lighting: - An office desk bright enough for working.

e) Dimmer switches: - Dimmer switches allow changes of atmosphere to be achieved with the lighting

f) Light fixtures and fittings: - light fixtures and fittings themselves will contribute to the room’s
appearance.

5. a) Explain the importance of color. Color is important not just because it creates a mood in a room,
but because it has the power to make a room feel larger, lighter, or cozier.

b) What are 'accent colors'? Accent coulors are unexpected shade in small areas of the room is one of
the quickest ways to add drama to a space, while creating a harmonious scheme.

6. Discuss 'texture' as it relates to a room. Texture adds dimensions and physical feeling into a room

 7. Explain with examples how pattern adds interest and life to a room. Small Polka Dots, Stripes
and Florals.
