1. History of volleyball;
2. The development of volleyball from United states to Philippines.

History of volleyball

In 1895 , in YMCA Holyoke Massachusetts , William G. Morgan developed and


experimented a new sport called volleyball , it was formerly known as “mintonnette”
which suppose to mean a game played by hitting a ball.

Unlike basketball , volleyball is a game where two teams compete by hitting a ball and
must be avoided to let the ball fallen to their side or the net.

In 1917 , The first rule book was implemented to the game , it was edited by Dr. George
Fisher which later then published to the American sports publishing company.

Soon after, it was first sponsored in YMCA where they held a volleyball tournament in
Brooklyn, New York in 1922.

Later then held another its first tournament at National AAU in Buffalo ,New York. Many
years past after the game developed its rules and regulations , the sport soon after be
know by other countries and volleyball became a permanent and one of the best sports
in the world

The development of volleyball to the United States to the Philippines

After the United Volleyball Association developed the sports ruling body , its finally
ready to let the sport be known to other countries, Dr. Gray a director of YMCA , in
Calcutta India first introduced the sport in Asia.

In 1903 , it was introduced to Shanghai , China and later then it was introduced to
Japan. As the sport was being introduced to one country to another , its experimentation
still do its course , in 1900 the point system was created and adapted to the sport.

Later then in 1910 , the sport was finally introduced to the Philippines by Elwood Brown,
a director of YMCA , Manila

Manila Philippines hosted Far eastern game for volleyball in 1913 and in 1921 the First
National Open Volleyball Championship was held in Meralco Gymnasium. The first
team won the championship for men is the Meralco Team and soon after then The
normal school won another championship for women.

Afterwards as the sport was finally known in the Philippines the adaptations of new
systems was implemented to the game as the years go on.
