Instruction:

1. Read the article “Design Versus Research; ABET Requirements for Design and Why Research

Cannot Substitute For Design” (Gassert et al., 2006):

2. Search for other articles that may help you with your report and include in the references.

3. Answer and reflect on the following topic outcomes:

a. Define design;

b. Explain why engineering students are required to do design project;

c. Illustrate the design process;

d. Differentiate design project from research project; and

e. Articulate why research project cannot substitute design project;

4. The content follows no specific template. You may use any form that will help you present your

thought in an orderly and logical way.

5. Report should be synthesized as a group not as summary of individual thoughts.

6. Rubric for written report is at the last page for your reference on how you will be graded.

7. Grammar Checking: Create a free account in Grammarly (www.grammarly.com). Run a

grammar check on your report and correct as needed before submitting.

8. Reference Manager: Create an account in Mendeley (www.mendeley.com). Download and

install Mendeley Reference Manager app. Install Mendeley Cite add-in and link to your

Microsoft O365 account. This application will help you with literature search and referencing.

There will be a webinar on how to use it. Be resourceful and innovative on how to get used to

this app through tutorials in YouTube and other platforms.
