Q. Questions
No
1 State the significance of radius of gyration
.
This effective distance (K) of the particles of a body from its axis of rotation is called its radius of
gyration about that axis, and is equal to the root mean square distance from it.

Radius of gyration of a body about a given axis of rotation is defined as the distance from the
axis, at which, the whole mass of the body were to be concentrated,

(Or) any other equivalent statements.

(2 Marks)

2 What is meant by the center of mass of a system or rigid body?

The centre of mass of a rigid body can be defined as the point at which an applied force
produces acceleration but no rotation.
The centre of mass can be considered as a point where the whole mass of a rigid body may be
supposed to be concentrated.
(Or)
The centre of mass of the sytem of N particles is defined as the point whose position vector is
