Enhancing/Decorating Product

I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

This Learning activity sheet will be focusing on the types/ sources of innovative
finishing materials, accessories, designs and processes in enhancing/ decorating products.
Upon completing this learning activity sheet you will conclude that there are many innovative
ways in enhancing/decorating simple materials to a unique and useful one.
II. LEARNING SKILLS FROM MELCs
After completing this Learning Activity Sheet, you are expected to;

1. Know the market trends on products made of bamboo, wood, and metal;
customer’s preference of products, types / sources of innovative finishing
materials, accessories, and designs, and processes in enhancing/decorating
finished products.
2. Identify types / sources of innovative finishing materials, accessories, and designs,
and processes in enhancing/decorating finished products.
3. Appreciate the importance of enhancing/decorating finished products made of
bamboo, wood, and metal.

Read and Understand
Types/sources of Innovative Finishing materials, Accessories, and design.
Aside from conducting a survey for the latest trends and customer preferences of the finished
products, you must also know the types/sources of Innovative finishing materials,
accessories, and designs that you can apply your product. These materials are used to
beautify, decorate, and improve the quality of finished products.
1.) Finishing materials that are used to smoothen the products before decorating.

Example: Varnish, shellac, lacquer, stain, sand paper, glue, and paint.

a) Varnish- is very durable because it contains a higher ratio of solids. Spar varnish is
perfect is perfect for outdoor projects and it protect the wood, it also provides natural
ultra violet light protection.
b) Shellac – is a good finished material for beautifying projects. It’s made from
combining a secretion from the female lac bug with a solvent such as alcohol, that is
very safe once it tried and hardened.
c) Lacquer – provides extremely intense gloss finished after use on ultra-modern
furnishing. It is applied via a sprayer.
d) Stain – is a coloring material which is apply to the surface of the wood. To improve
its appearance.
e) Sand paper – comes in varying textures from rough to fine. Used no.60 to 150 for
rough surfaces, and nos. 250 to 1000 is for the smooth.
f) Glue – is a paste for wood materials, it is in powder or in a cake form.
g) Paint – is another finishing material that is always used because of its beautiful color
and a good protector of the materials.

2.) Colored Paper, twines, and ribbon cloth – are used in decorating and wrapping products.

3.) Beads and Charms – are small accessories of different colors used to make products
attractive.

4.) Abaca and Sinamay fibers- are paper thin locally made materials used for wrapping or
packaging and other purposes.

THE DIFFEERENT PROCESSES IN ENHANCING AND DECORATING FINISHED


PRODUCTS.

i) Metal enhancing media

OTHER METHODS:
1. Engraving – is a method of transferring a design on metal using a hardened steel
tool called burin
2. Etching – a metal craft enhancing technique to make design or a picture on a
metal plate by using acid that produce corrosive action.
3. Adding metal enhancing media like metal paints maybe applied using a brush or
spray.
4. Texturing and embossing – these techniques need

b. Metal stamps These materials used to create a design on metal product.
