CLAUSES AFTER WISH / IF ONLY

(If only = I wish)

1. Wish for the present:
S1 + WISH + (THAT) + S2 + V (Past subjunctive)
 Past subjunctive (Quá khứ giả định):
- Be = were (tất cả các ngôi)
- Các động từ khác giống quá khứ đơn
 I wish I were a billionaire. = If only I were a billionaire.
 Nam Khanh wishes he had a lot of money.
 We wish we had an opportunity to meet each other now.

2. Wish for the past:

S1 + WISH + (THAT) + S2 + HAD P2 (quá khứ hoàn thành)
 She wishes she hadn’t made any mistakes in the test yesterday.

3. Wish for the future:

S1 + WISH + (THAT) + S2 + WOULD / COULD / MIGHT… + V
 I wish I would have good marks in my exam tomorrow.
 She wishes she could fly.
