TEACHING SCIENCE IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADE

Lesson 2: The Science Framework in the K to 12
MODULE 2

DIONESIA P. ANTONIO BEED 2A

Let’s Do the Task

Directions:
1. Read the K to 12 Curriculum Guide in Sciences pages.
2. Answers the following questions:
a. What is the overall goal of basic education science?
- The overall goal of basic education science the development of scientifically,
technologically, and environmentally literate and productive members of society.
- Use and interpret science to explain the world around them. Evaluate and
understand scientific theories and evidence. Investigate and generate scientific
explanations.

b. What is the content of the science curriculum?

- The science in the elementary school covers basics concepts of life sciences,
physical sciences, and Earth and space sciences that develop across the grades.

c. How is the content of science curriculum organized?

- The curriculum is composed of four standards: Living Things, Materials, Energy
and Forces, and Environmental Awareness and Care. These standards, which are
subdivided into strand units, outline the concepts and ideas to be explored by
children as they work scientifically, and are involved in designing and making.

3. With a partner, brainstorm about what you learned about the Science curriculum. Then,
fill out the table with the needed information.

My Reflection
After finishing this lesson, I learned that the science
curriculum aims to help children develop basic scientific
ideas and the processes through which they develop this
knowledge and understanding.
