• 이것, “this thing,” is a pronoun / a noun near the speaker.

• 저것, “that thing,” = a noun near to neither speaker or listener.
• 그것, “that thing” or “the thing,” = a noun near the listener, or a noun
already mentioned in a given conversation, i.e. a noun known to both spe
aker and listener.
