TOPIC : BLOOD DONATION DRIVE


BLOOD DONATION

‾ A blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusion
and made into biopharmaceutical medication by a process called fractionation.

‾ Fractionation means separation of whole blood components.

‾ Donation may be of whole bloof oe of specific components directly

‾ Blood bank often participation in the collection process as well as the procedures that follow
it.
BLOOD DRIVE

⁻ An event where donor comes to donate allogeneic blood is sometimes called a blood drive
or a blood donation session.

⁻ These can occur at a blood bank, but they are often set up at a location in the community
such as a shopping center, workplace, school or house of worship.
TYPES OF BLOOD DONATION

I. ALLOGENEIC DONATION
 It is donation when a doner gives blood for storage at a blood bank for transfusion to an unknown recipient.

II. DIRECTED DONATION


 A directed donation is when a person often a family member, donates blood for transfusion to a specific
individual.

III. REPLACEMENT DONOR


 A replacement donor is a hybrid of the two and is common in developing countries.

IV. AUTOLOGOUS DONATION

 When a person has blood stored that will be transfusion back to the donor at a later date, usually after
surgery called autologous donation.
BASIC REQUIREMENT TO DONATE BLOOD

 Be in generally good health and felling well.

 Be at least 17 years od age upper age for male 55 yr and female 50 yr.

 Weight at least 110 pound (45 kg)

 Pulse 80 to 100 beats / min and regular.

 Temperature should not exceed 99.5 (37.5 c)

 Blood pressure acceptable range is 160/90 to 110/60.

 Skin : the vane puncture site should be free of lesion or scar of needle prick indicative of addiction to
narcotics or frequent blood donation.
DONATION FREQUENCY

 Whole blood donor may donate every 56 days.

 Plasma donor may donate twice a week .

 Platelet donor may donate a maximums of 24 times per year.

 Other specialized donations are subject to other rules.

 At civil hospital blood bank usually interval of three month recommended.


TEST ARE REQUIRED TO BLOOD DONATION TRANSFUSION

 PS for malarial parasite


 VDRL for syphilis
 ELISA for HIV
 Hepatitis B virus
 Hepatitis C virus
WHO DONATE BLOOD

 Healthy adults 18 to 75 yr. who meet donation eligibility criteria can donate blood. The procedure is safe and
relatively painless.

 During a regular donation, you will around 470 ml of whole blood. This is about 8% of the average adults
blood volume.

 The body replace this volume within 24 and 48 hr. and replenishes red blood cells in 10 to 12 weeks.
PLANNING OF BLOOD DONATION

1. FIND A PLACE

 The first step to planning a blood drive is to find a suitable location such as a public
square or a community center.

 A few points to keep in mind a comfortable waiting area for donors, likely weather
condition on the day easy access to parking or public transport.

2. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL RED CROSS

 Hosting a blood drive is a partnership between your local red cross.

 Get in touch to schedule your derive and find out specific information for your area.
3. RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS

 you will need help on the day of the blood drive, so once you have got a date and place set its time to recruit some
volunteers,

 To make things easier add a note in yore community newsletter and take advantages of relevant social media
channels.

4. ADVERTISE THE BLOOD DRIVE

 Advertise the event to your community.

 Again email blasts and social media posts are a cheap, easy wey to get the word out about your blod donation
drive.

 If you community has a local center you can go the old fashioned route and hang some flayers to cover your bases.
