Statement:
A 50 Hz transmission line over a distance of 300 km from Mangla to Faisalabad supplying power to 50
MW load at 220 kV with 0.8 lagging power factor. The line has a total series impedance of 40 + j125
ohms and a total shunt admittance of 10-3 mho. Using all the available transmission performance
computational techniques, calculate the sending-end voltage, current, power and power factor. After
calculation analyze the results of all the techniques and draw your conclusion for used techniques based
on accuracy and computational effort.

Solution By Short Transmission Line Method:

Given Data:

l=300km

P.F=0.8(lagging)

f=50Hz

total impedance z=40+125j

(a)50MW at 220kv

Solution:

The receiving end (Load) power per phase:

PR= √3*VR*IR*cos𝜑
50*10^6 = √3 *220k*IR*(0.8)

IR=IS=50*10^6 / (√3*220k*0.8)

IS=IR=1640.19A

The Receiving end voltage per phase:

VR=(2200°)÷(√3)= 127.01 0° KV

The apparent power is

530

=50  36.86

=40.005+29.993j W

The current per phase equals to

IS=IR= 1640.19 -36.87°

The Sending end Voltage is

Vs= VR+Z  IR = 127 0 +(40+125j)(1640.2-36.87)= 327.194  22.39° KV per phase

Vs = √3*(327.194) KV

VS=566.72KV (Three Phase)

The sending end power is

SS=(3  )=3*VS*IS=3  (566.717 22.39° KV)(1640.19 36.87°)=2788.57 59.26° MVA

Power Factor is given by

Conclusion:

Here we use three different technique to check which

transmission line is perfect for given statement.The technique
that is use is Short line, Medium and Long model.After
calculation I draw some result that give me which is suitable for
530

this problem. First of all use Short model which power factor is
0.5111 and the result of Medium model is 0.74080.And result of long Model is 0.9996.So the
power factor of all these three model is here and I compare the power factor of all of these
By comparing all these I draw a result that Long Line Transmission Model is suitable for this
problem which power factor is closer to unity.
