HEADLINE

Safe Space: a newly opened, biological scientist-owned local facility for patients with disabilities
Nicole: It is a beautiful day in General Santos City to opened a New Facility. “Safe Space” with a
slogan _________ is now opened and are ready to welcome people with disabilities. A great
community and safe place for people with disabilities.
We are here now with Dr. Francine Francesca Hernando, a biological scientist who opened the
facility for people with special needs.
Good day Dr. Hernando, can you tell us more about the Safe Space?
Dr. Hernando: Good day, miss Nicole. So safe space is a facility made for people with intellectual
disabilities or special needs due to gene linked abnormalities.
Nicole: --- What is the reason for opening Safe Space?
Dr. Hernando: Our goal is to help every person with special needs reach their full potential and
function as independently as possible to improve their quality of life by offering care coordination,
assistance, education, identification of resources, advocacy, and support to their families. Safe Space
is one of the few local facilities to offer these much-needed services to people with special needs.
Nicole: Since you opened a facility for disabilities, can you please explain to us what are gene linked
abnormalities or chromosomal abnormalities?
Dr. Hernando: Gene linked abnormalities or chromosomal abnormalities are conditions caused by
changes to the genes and chromosomes. Sometimes, genetic disorders are passed down from parents
to children but sometimes, there are sudden changes in the DNA of a gene that affects the
development of a baby without family history.
Nicole: What are your hopes for this facility?
Dr. Hernando: We hope to bring light and spread awareness on genetic disorders and to erase the
social stigma and discrimination surrounding people with special needs.
