Whole, Natural etc.

Complex number (C): A complex number consists of two parts; a real number and an
imaginary number, and expressed in the form a+ib.
Ex: 5+3i
Imaginary number (i): Square root of a negative real number denoted by the symbol I,
where i^2 = -1
Ex: 5i, 3i
Real number (R): Set of numbers that include both rational and irrational numbers is called
real numbers
Rational number (Q): Any number that can be expressed in the form of p/q, where p and q
are integers and q≠ 0, is called rational number
Irrational number (Q): Any number that cannot be expressed in the form of p/q, where p
and q are integers and q≠ 0, is called irrational number
Integer (Z): The integers are natural numbers and their negatives and 0
Whole number (W): Zero added to the set of natural numbers becomes the set of whole
numbers
Natural numbers (N): All countable numbers N= {1,2,3,4……}
Points to remember:
I. 1 and 0 are neither prime nor composite
II. 2 is the only even prime number
III. All prime numbers can be represented in the form of 6n±1.But,not all numbers
represented in the form of 6n±1
IV. A number whose nth digit after decimal point is known is a rational number ( non-
recurring terminating numbers and non terminating recurring numbers are rational
numbers)
V. Irrational numbers are generally non-terminating and non-recurring decimal fractions)
VI. Square root of all prime numbers are irrational
