‘SK Shaft Sealing System
Carbon Seating Rings ore used asthe weor face of most
‘mechanical seals forthe sealing of fds in all indus.
APPLICATION ARE :
+ Process pumps
+ Rotary steam joins
+ Seais for agitators and autoclaves
+ Chemical pumps
+ Cold and war water pumps
+ Comosive iquid pumps
Carton is wel suited to be used as a sealing ring due to
having the folowing properties
+ Very Good Chemical resistance
+ Good thetmal conductivity
+ High wear resstonce
+ Good comosion resistance
+ Diy unning properties
+ Good frctional properties
+ Outstanding resistance thermal shock
+ Low Therma! expansion
SEALING RINGSue fo the nees for seaing rings to be impervious the carbon material timpregnted with ether resin or various metals. VSK should
bbe contacted to ensure the comect grade is used for he application. Seal faces can be supplied unlapped orf required lapped to
two / three hesum light brands of Haines.
Carbon sea! faces ore compotibe with @ wide range of metalic ond ceramic counter faces including siicon carbide and tungsten
carbide.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Certain factors must be taken into consideration when
deciding which combination of material for seal ring
‘and countertaces the most suitable for a particular
pplication. These factors are the lubrication conditions
obiainable at the interface, the pressure between seal
ting and countertace.
Full Fluid Flim or Wet Lubrication
This Condition i that which would be found in @ pump with the
seal fuly immersed in the quid being sealed ond arranged so that
there Is @ constant supply of coo! quid circulating around its
rubbing faces and wih a seal combination designed to give ful
ful fim arcation a te intertaca
Boundary Lubrication
This @ conaition in which the only cooling of the seal
is achieved by splath trom the liquid being sealed or
in which the seal is fully immersed but the circulation
Of the iquid round its restricled or the interface fim
is destroyed repeatedly by evaporation
rk Address
Dry
This means that the seal is out of contac! with the
liquid and is completely surrounded by gas. This is
the most arduous operating condition and should, i
possible, be avoided because in cerlain circum-
stances very high rate of wear can be experienced.
IV the dew point of the surrounding gas is mare than
0°C there fsa. good changes of success. There have
been applications where the dew point was down
0 -15°C and the resulting wear rate was accept.
able. With dew points below -15°C, the wear rate
becomes excessive.
In those cases where “cry” conditions are encoun-
tered its preferable to use a gland ring or labyrinth
system,
