I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of the musical characteristics of


representative music from Mindanao.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner performs music of Mindanao with appropriate expression and
style.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES: describe the musical characteristic of representative music selections from
Mindanao after listening.

At the end of 45 minutes discussion, the students should be able to:

a. identify the musical characteristic of representative music selections from Mindanao after
listening,
b. perform instruments/Improvised instruments from Mindanao alone and or with theirs and
c. value of knowing importance of the music of Mindanao.

music of Mindanao.

C. ABSTRACTION
The last topic of second quarter are all about the health
or 6 basic skill of nutrients, before we proceed to the
third quarter which is music, can anyone give the 6
basic skill of nutrients?

So what are again the basic skills of nutrients?

Sir, the 6 basic skill of nutrient are PROTIENS,
CARBOHYDRATES, FATS, VITAMINS/MINERAL,

Let’s proceed to the first topic of third quarter.

1. CHANTS- A lyrical rendition of different


improvised text.
Chanting. It is known as the rhythmic speaking or
singing of words or sounds, often primarily on one or
two main pitches called reciting tones.

Yakans do their chanting through solo and counter


singing or group of singing.
The Yakan people are among the major indigenous
Filipino ethnolinguistic groups in the Sulu Archipelago.
Having a significant number of followers of Islam, it is
considered one of the 13 Moro groups in the
Philippines.
Their three famous everyday style of chants are the:

LUGU- chants used in reading their quran and books


they use in their islam religion

KALANGAN-songs for serenading love ones.

SA-IL/LUMSEY- A chant to be sung by the wife to be


during the ceremony.

Maranao’s vocal repertoire


 DIKKER- sacred songs highlighted by quotations
from the qur’an.
 BAYOK- semi-generic term for lyrical rendition
of different improvised text.

2. LULLABY- a chant style or chant formula used


for rocking a baby to sleep.
A lullaby, or cradle song, is a soothing song or
piece of music that is usually played for
children. The purposes of lullabies vary. In
some societies they are used to pass down
cultural knowledge or tradition.

YA-YA- song of yakans to put the baby to sleep

BAYOK- maranao term for lullaby


A topical singing done in moderate tempo. Topic deals
with love, nature, things of expository character and
highlights od a person's life or that of the family or the
clan.

D. APPLICATION

So for the activity we will perform the lullaby chant


groupings
Class will divided into 5 group and will sing the lullaby
song.

our topic? Yes. Indigenous Philippine folklore is characterized
by sacred rituals and practices, and made
more fervent and vibrant by the music that
accompanies them. In Mindanao, the sounds
of the agum and guimbao signal the assembly
of the participants in the performance of
sacrifices by indigenous groups.
