The document provides information about occupational health and safety procedures for computer technicians. It lists 12 safety procedures, such as not working alone and always powering off computers before working on them. It also identifies common hazards like physical, mechanical, chemical, and electrical shock hazards. Examples of each hazard are given, such as slippery floors, hot components, chemical cleaners, and exposed wires. The document instructs students to identify the type of hazard in different scenarios and provides a worksheet for them to fill in blanks and identify hazards.

Teaching Date Week 7 - 9 Learning Area Computer Hardware and Time Servicing Semester / 1st Semester Quarter
12 Occupational Hazard & Safety Procedures:
1. Do not work alone so that there’s someone who can take care of you in case of an emergency. 2. Always power off the computer and unplug the computer before working on it. 3. Take away any liquid near your working area to avoid getting electrocuted or accidentally damaging computer parts. 4. Be careful with tools that may cause a short circuit. 5. Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer. 6. Do not use excessive force if things don’t quite slip into place. 7. Clean the area before and after using it to maintain sanitation and prevent accidents. 8. Hold the components on the edges and do not touch the Integrated Circuit (IC) parts. 9. Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with the organization’s OHS procedures and practices. 10. Make sure that the pins are properly aligned when connecting a cable connector. 11. Contingency measures during workplace accidents, fire, and other emergencies are recognized. 12. Use a brush, compressed air, or blower in cleaning the computer system.
Common hazards encountered by computer technicians and users
1.) Physical Hazard – Are factors within the environment that can harm the body without necessarily touching it. 2.) Mechanical Hazard – anything inorganic that moves and can injure you. 3.) Chemical Hazard – Are present when a worker is exposed to any chemical preparation in the workplace in any form (solid, liquid or gas.) 4.) Electrical Shock Hazard – occurs when the body becomes part of the electric circuit. A shock can cause burns to tissues and organs.
