Performance Task 3

1. “The people do not complain because they have no voice; do not move because they
are lethargic, and you say that they do not suffer because you have not seen their
hearts bleed.”
― José Rizal, Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not)
The dialogue implies that people who do not have privilege in this world, are not being able to
voice out what they want to say in their country. It is as if justice is only for the wealthy people
because the word “money”, only evolves around rich people. Nevertheless, money can buy
everything except a pure heart because money is just for material things. And having a good
heart within you explains everything in your character. With that, this statement of Jose Rizal
implies that people need to be reminded of the significance of not being oblivious to their
oppression.

2. “To be happy does not mean to indulge in foolishness!”

― José Rizal, Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not)
The dialogue implies there is nothing wrong with being happy as long as you do not hurt and
step anyone's toes. Happiness is just like enjoyment wherein there is nothing wrong with
enjoying something. And enjoyment is all that matters, and everyone's happiness is equal. It
does not imply that everyone is entitled to happiness, but it does imply that no one's
happiness is intrinsically more valuable than anyone else's. Moreover, Jose Rizal reminds us
that being happy is something that gives us a good feeling in our inner core and it helps us to
be healthy emotionally and physically.

3. "How long have you been away from the country?" Laruja asked Ibarra. "Almost
seven years." "Then you have probably forgotten all about it." "Quite the contrary. Even
if my country does seem to have forgotten me, I have always thought about it."
- José Rizal, Noli Me Tángere
This dialogue implied that even if we are out of our own country, we will always be
remembering where we came from. Jose Rizal is telling us and reminding us that whenever you
go, you must not forget your own country instead, you should always put in your mind and soul
that it is the place where you were born and it is your blood, your nationality rather. Going out of
the country is not going to define and measure you so that you can forget your own country. And
with that, this would give us a lesson on how we should be proud as a Filipino citizen in our
country.
4. “I have to believe much in God because I have lost my faith in man.”
― José Rizal, Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not)

Jose Rizal's dialogue is giving us fruitful and meaningful words of wisdom because he implies
that we can all rely upon all our problems to God which means that all power belongs to God and
God alone. On top of this, you can only have faith in God, not in man, who is merely a creation
of God and thus has no power in which you can put your faith. People must always strive to
please God alone, rather than a pleasing man with expectations in return. And after all, God is in
control of all men at all times.

5. “Dying people don't need medicine, the ones who remain do.”
― José Rizal, Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not)
Jose Rizal’s dialogue implied the meaning of “life” and how we should put value in our lives
while we are still living in this beautiful world. He was trying to remind us that when the day
comes, we all end up in the same place when we die because we both have the attribute of
ignorance. Without knowledge, we may lose sight of the fact that we are human. Jose Rizal
wished for us to gain a better understanding of life. It teaches us the importance’s on an
understanding of life wherein this would help people to grow from the certain situation that they
have learned in life.
