ABOUT THE COURSE – MEASUREMENTS AND INSTRUMENTATION

The course discussed about the Basic measurement concepts, different types of
instruments and advanced measurement concepts as given below

Unit 1 Basic Electronic Measurement Concepts contains Basics of measurement systems and
all types of measurements used. This unit deals with characteristics, units and standards of measurement
system, error analysis and types of error. Moving coil and moving iron meters, multimeters, true rms
meters and bridge measurements. This will be useful to understand about the many types of
measurements.

Unit 2 Basic Electronic Measurements deals with the Construction, operation and applications
of Electronic multimeters, CRO and its special types, Q-meters, Vector meters and RF voltage and
power measurements techniques. With the help of this unit students can gain the knowledge about the
electronic instruments and its application.

Unit 3 Signal Generators And Analyzers discusses Construction, operation and applications of
Function generators, RF signal generators, Sweep generators, Frequency synthesizer, Wave analyzer,
Harmonic distortion analyzer and Spectrum analyzer which will be useful in signal processing and signal
analyzing field.

Unit 4 Digital Instruments includes Various types of digital instruments such as Digital
voltmeter, Multimeters, Frequency counters and their measuring techniques. It is helpful to handle the
instruments.

Unit 5 Data Acquisition Systems And Fiber Optic Measurements deals with Some advanced
measurement techniques like Interfacing of transducers, Multiplexing, Computer controlled
instrumentation, IEEE 488 bus, Fiber optic measurements for power and system loss and Optical time
domains reflectometer. These concepts are useful while handling the advanced instruments.
