IET 342 – Warehouse Management

For the given warehouse layout, identify the location with proper reasoning where the following
items should be stored:

High usage frequency

The first rows (1-3) from Zone 3 and Zone 4 should be used for high usage frequency since they are
closer to the shipping area. It can be beneficial to bring all these products to these zones as soon as they
arrive at the warehouse. Receiving products happens at once, however, shipping is more frequent and in
fewer quantities. This is why the high-usage products should be closer to the shipping area rather than
the receiving area.

Medium usage frequency

Rows 4-6 from Zones 1 and the whole of Zone 2 should be kept for medium usage frequency. It is
accessible but not as much as the other zones for higher-frequency products. This will help to make
fewer trips. Besides, it is more accessible than other zones which will be more helpful for storage.

Low usage frequency

Zone 1 (rows 1-3), Zone 3 (rows 4-6), and Zone 4 (rows 4-6) should be available for items with a low
usage frequency since they are farther from the receiving and shipping areas. They are already used for
storage which is convenient.
