subclavian artery
REMYA VINOD
DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY.
Branches of arch of aorta.
Subclavian artery.
Internal Carotid Artery
 Terminal Branch of the
common carotid artery.
 Ascends in the neck
without giving branches.
 Carotid Siphon.
 Terminates by giving the
anterior and the middle
cerebral arteries.
Internal Carotid Artery
Branches:

 Superior and Inferior

hypophyseal arteries.
 Ophthalmic artery.
 Anterior choroid artery.
 Posterior communicating
artery.
 Anterior cerebral artery.
 Middle cerebral artery.
Internal Carotid Artery
Applied Anatomy:

 Artery of cerebral Haemorrhage (Charcot’s artery)

Vertebral Artery
• Branch of the first part of the
subclavian artery.
• 1st part: Origin - Foramen
transversarium of 6th cervical
vertebra
• 2nd part: Foramen
transversaria of all the upper
6 vertebrae.
• 3rd part: Posterior arch of the
atlas vertebra. Enters the
cranium
• 4th part: Inside the cranial
cavity.
Vertebral Artery
Branches:

 Anterior Spinal Artery.

 Posterior Spinal Artery.
 Posterior Inferior Cerebral Artery.
Dural Venous Sinuses
 Venous Spaces in the
duramater
 Lined by endothelial cells.
 Paired Dural Sinuses.
1. Cavernous sinuses
2. Transverse sinuses
3. Sigmoid sinuses
4. Superior petrosal
sinuses
5. Inferior petrosal
sinuses
Dural Venous Sinuses
• Unpaired sinuses
1. Superior sagittal
sinuses
2. Straight sinuses
3. Inferior sagittal
sinuses
• Finally drain into the
Internal Jugular Vein
Cavernous Sinuses
 Paired Sinus
 Either side of the
Sphenoid.

 Formation
 Menengial Layer of the
Dura Mater

 Opthalmic Nerve.
 Maxillary Nerve.
Cavernous Sinuses
 Structures inside the
cavernous sinus.

Artery.
 Abducent Nerve.
Cavernous Sinuses
 Tributaries:
 From the orbit.
1. Superior ophthalmic vein
2. A tributary of inferior ophthalmic vein
3. Central vein of retina.
 From the brain
1. Superficial middle cerebral vein
2. Inferior cerebral veins
