Self-Assessment of NBPTS

Directions: For each element, rate yourself in one of the following three categories. Then provide examples of your experiences in the
area of the NBPTS. Finally, identify areas within each domain where you are interested in growing. On the last page, summarize your
strengths and areas of possible growth. Boxes will expand as needed.
 Exploring/Emerging (E/E) - a level of practice in which the teacher relies on ongoing assistance from more experienced colleagues for
support, guidance, and survival. The teacher is moving toward becoming more self-directed and independent in her/his practice.
 Applying (A) - a level of practice in which the teacher is able to provide independent instruction and easily applies what s/he has
learned about educational practice.
 Integrating/Innovating (I/I) - a level of development in which the teacher is fully skilled and confident. The Integrating/Innovating
teacher is contributing to the broader educational community through staff development, research, or publication in professional
journals.

Summary of Strengths and Areas of Possible Growth

My strenghts lie in working hard to provide the best instruction for my students. I rely on colleagues, research and
feedback to improve my practice. I vary my teaching methods and try new ideas to see what works best for my students. I
change and adapt based on student feedback and assessment methods. Students are able to show their knowledge in
different ways and have opportunities to learn using multiple modalities.
While I intend to grow in each area, being immersed in research and applying best practices is an area of needed growth.
Professional development workshops and trainings, learning from colleagues, and being involved in professsional learning
organizations will improve my instruction. To create multiple pathways to learning and increase student engagemnt, I also
need to become more specialized in each subject area to teach it in a way that can be learned by all students of different
abilities. Meeting students' individual needs will involve more systematic group experiences and learning how to best use
small group instructional time to the benefit of all students.
