IMPORTANCE OF TIMELINESS
A. Land Preparation
-All farm works should be done on time according to weather conditions
not on the calendar, otherwise the yield will suffer.
 Late plowing- means late planting which will subject the crops to
unfavorable weather conditions.
 Plowing when ground is wet will cause the soil to puddle and bake.
 Fields dry up at different times depending on the type of soil and slope.
*Light soils dry earlier than heavy soils.
*Upper slopes dry earlier than lower ones.

B. Planting
-The correct time of seeding and the right time and age of the seedlings at
transplanting are very important.
Ex. Tomatoes harvested in October are worth ten times than in January.
.
C. Harvesting
-Timing in harvesting determines the quality of products to a great extent.
 Vegetables:
- Early harvesting means sacrifice in yield.
-Late harvesting has adverse effect on their quality.
 Fruits:
- Early and late harvest reduces quality.
- Early harvest means longer ripening period and late harvest
means shorter ripening period.
- Most fruits are harvested when they have the highest sucrose
content and the lowest acid content.
 Rice:
- Early harvest results to undue amount and semi-empty grains.
-Late harvest results in plenty of losses due to shattering and attack
of birds and other predators.
- Grains become cracked resulting in low milling quality.
 Corn:
- Early harvest results in soft and poor keeping quality.
- -Late harvest results in attack by insects and diseases

HAZARDS IN FARMING

Plants and animals even if supplied with all the essential ingredients for good
production, may still give poor yield if nothing is done to counteract such detrimental
factors as;
o Diseases
o Pests
o Unfavorable weather
o Other adverse conditions
