Q 1.

Consider a thin plate with a hole at the center.

Diameter of hole is 1m. For the given
100 N/m

boundary condition plot the stress contours

around the hole. Take material modulus of
elasticity 200 GPa and Poisson’s ratio 0.3.

Q 2.
7.5 cm
Consider a thin plate with notch shown
1 cm
in the corresponding figure. For the
100 N/m

3 cm given boundary condition plot the stress

0.5 cm
contours in the plate around the notch
tip. Discuss the result. Take E=70 GPa,
15 cm ν=0.25.

Q 3. A thin composite plate is shown in adjacent

figure. In this common boundaries are joined
A together. Material A is having modulus of
100 N/m

0.20 m B elasticity (E)300 GPa and Poisson’s ratio (ν)

0.25, for material B, E=70 GPa, ν=0.3, and for
C material C, E=200 GPa, ν=0.33. For given
1m boundary conditions plot the stress contours
within the composite system. Discuss the
result.
Q 4. y
Parallelepiped (PPD) is shown in adjacent
figure. Cross-section of it is (0.5x0.5) m2.
One face of the PPD is constrained not to
move in x-direction, on the other face as
shown in figure 100 N force is applied at all
x four corners associated with that face. Find
z 5m the displacement in the x, y, and z
directions of the four longitudinal edges.
