How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

Teacher will introduce the lesson with the digital story, Triangle’s Bad Day”. Students will
work with a partner to plan their own digital shape story using the storyboard template. For

each panel student pairs could draw a shape and then underneath brainstorm objects in the
world around them with that shape. (15 minutes)

Each page should have a different shape. Students should describe the shape and name
different objects with that shape. After their storyboard is complete, the students will
conference with the teacher to go over their storyboard plan.
Students will then open Microsoft PowerPoint. They will create their own shape story
inserting shapes, stock images, and narration. (45 min)

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? Students will be working with a partner.
The teacher will be conferencing with each pair after their storyboard is complete and then
monitoring pairs as they work with PowerPoint. Students will take turns on each page
inserting shapes and pictures and narrating. Students will be given a copy of the rubric to
refer to as they work in order to revisit the learning goal.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The students will be actively engaged in the collaborative lesson using technology to illustrate
their knowledge of shapes through the use of media and narration.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

Students will be able to express their understanding of shapes through their words and
creative processes. I am looking forward to saving their stories as videos which can be shared
with others.
