Chapter 1: The Problem and its Background

Introduction

In this pandemic we all know that bicycle is one of the

most helpful things that we used today because it becomes

the medium of our transportation going to work, market,

malls and so on. As pandemic continuous extending, we

realized the value and importance of bicycle in our daily

life.

Bicycle is good not only for our physical but also for

our emotional well-being. Using bicycle helps us to save

money and it is also environmentally beneficial means of

transportation.

Bicycle World Corporation is an established

manufacturer of Bicycle helmet, offering newly innovated

product called “Diamond Backlight Helmet” that help us to

avoid accident. According to the MMDA Survey dated February

12, 2020 the classification by time of day around 12:00 noon

to 1 in the afternoon 50 person engage in a bicycle related

road crash. This pushed us to create a Safety Helmet to all

bikers to avoid these accidents.

Our Diamond Backlight Helmet is a Safety helmet which

protect and reduce the risk of head injury. It has a

backlight that notify the person at the back which lane will

you take.

Our Philosophy

We are obsessed with details of not making a cheap but

a high quality and special bicycle helmet for our customers.

We are striving to meet or exceed our customers’

expectations and continuously improve our environmental

endeavors.

Our Vision

To become a leading manufacturer of bicycle accessories

and provide innovative and quality products to our

customers.

Our Mission

History of the Project

The oldest known of helmets was in 900 BC. Assyrian

Soldier wore a thick leather helmets to protect their head

from blunt objects.

In 1817 a German named Karl von Drais created a

steerable, two-wheeled contraption this protype didn’t

include a pedal instead rider pushing off the ground

with the use of their feet.

In 1880 a high wheel user made a strips of leather

covered padding made in Italy known for beautiful soft

leather.

In 1970 the Snell Foundation had promulgated the first

bicycle helmet standard in U.S.

1990 was the year of next big design step the shell

helped the foam to make it skid more easily on pavement.

Some manufacturers have continued making the hard shell.

In 2001 Hopus Technology manage to develop a technique

to make molded in the shell helmets using ABS hard shell.

Finally, in 2004 there where a sign of at least a few

rounder and smoother design.

Review of the Related Literature and Studies

Foreign Literature

Commuting by bicycle has advantages over other modes of

transport, both for the commuter and for society. Although

cycling is an option for many commuters, a considerable

number of them choose to use other forms of transport. In

order to underpin policies that promote commuting by

bicycle, this paper investigates the determinants for

commuting to work. As many bicycle commuters do not cycle

every day, we also examine people’s daily choices, in terms

of frequency. We conducted a survey of the current

literature in order to identify the determinants for

commuting by bicycle. We found many determinants, not all of

which are addressed by conventional mode choice studies and

models. This suggests that predicting and influencing

bicycle use needs to be grounded in other kinds of knowledge

than those currently available for motorized forms of

transport.

This paper begins by providing an overview of bike

share programs, followed by a critical examination of the

NAVOTAS POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE Page | 20
Bangus St., Barangay NBBS, Navotas City
growing body of literature on these programs. This synthesis

of previous works, both peer-reviewed and gray, includes an

identification of the current gaps in knowledge related to

the impacts of bike sharing programs. This synthesis

represents a critically needed evaluation of the current

state of global bike share research, in order to better

understand, and maximize the effectiveness of current and

future programs. Several consistent themes have emerged

within the growing body of research on bike share programs.

Firstly, the importance bike share members place on

convenience and value for money appears paramount in their

motivation to sign up and use these programs. Secondly, and

somewhat counter intuitively, scheme members are more likely

to own and use private bicycles than nonmembers. Thirdly,

users demonstrate a greater reluctance to wear helmets than

private bicycle riders and helmets have acted as a deterrent

in jurisdictions in which helmets are mandatory. Finally,

and perhaps most importantly from a sustainable transport

perspective, the majority of scheme users are substituting

from sustainable modes of transport rather than the car.

Increased use of NMT requires behavioural change—change

that theoretically results from a combination of soft and/or

hard measures, in addition to complex policy relevant

factors. The interventions from hard measures mostly require

changes to the built environment—changes that would increase

the access, attractiveness, safety, comfort, and security of

NMT. Additionally, they may stimulate changes in

perceptions, attitudes, and other psychological factors

similar to those anticipated by soft measures (Krizek et al.

2007b). Increased walking and cycling may (a) replace

motorized trips, (b) be new, or (c) be longer. In the longer

term this may lead to secondary effects such as changed

individual car ownership or community-scale reductions in

traffic congestion (Krizek et al. 2007b). Many such

secondary effects have been identified and include better

air quality, improved health, and liveable cities (Figure

3). Some of these secondary benefits have complex causes and

the exact contribution of non-motorized transportation is

difficult to assess. Such complexity is also the case for

issues like traffic congestion and obesity (Krizek et al.

2007b). Overall, it is crucial to assess actual effects

rather than assuming that effects are significant and in the

expected direction.

PESTLE Analysis

Political and Legal Environment

NAVOTAS POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE Page | 45
Bangus St., Barangay NBBS, Navotas City
Political and Legal Environment can impact our company

in terms of political stability, mandatory employee

benefits, and the pricing regulations.

Economic Environment

Philippines have low economic growth for this year but

the inflation on the selected products still increased and

may affect the business that will lead to slow growth. But

despite of low economic growth the demand for bicycle

accessories increase this year because of the cancellations

of transportation such as busses, jeepneys, and tricycle and

the only mode of transportation is bicycle.

Social and Cultural Environment

People has many preference and unlimited wants in

buying a new product, this may affect our business because

of the following reason;

1. Brand loyalty

2. People who don’t know how to ride bicycle this is the

main reason of the customers not to buy our product.

3. Lack of knowledge about our product and lack of

reputation.

Technological Environment
NAVOTAS POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE Page | 46
Bangus St., Barangay NBBS, Navotas City
The evolution in today’s generation, technology has

become the source of advancement of every business.

Technology helps our company to communicate with the

employees as well as the target market in an easiest way

such as social media marketing and commercials. It also

fastens the delivery of the product using apps that detects

all the traffic along the road and provide an alternative

route. This can lower the transportation cost of our company

but at some point can cause unemployment.

Ecological Environment

Our business may help the environment by reducing the

pollution and lessen the chemicals produce by the cars.

customers would have a better understanding about our

helmet.

Newly out in the market, we don’t have any appearance

of reputation.

a better chance for us and for people to purchase our
