SPECIAL SCIENCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (SSES) PROJECT
POLICY GUIDELINES ON THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE OF SPECIAL SCIENCE
CLASSES ENTRANTS

I. INTRODUCTION

Cainta Elementary, a central school located in the heart of the municipality of


Cainta, is the only school implementing Special Science Elementary Schools
Project within the region of Rizal. The SSES Project is a national program of the
Department of Education which is set to be implemented within three consecutive
school years and will be continued in the succeeding years until all grades are
covered. This project caters scientifically - inclined pupils who are willing to undergo
the program. (see attached file: SSES Project Revised Implementation Guidelines).

II. THE SPECIAL SCIENCE CLASS LEARNERS

As per DepEd Order no. 57, s. 2011, The SSES learners are those enrolled
in SPED Centers classified as Gifted and Talented and regular schools who passed
the SSES screening procedures. These are the children who are equipped with
scientific and technological knowledge, skills and attitudes; creative and have
positive values; and lifelong learning skills to become productive partners in the
development of the community and society.
These scientifically and technologically inclined learners bring the host
school many recognitions for having valuable achievements in different fields of
competition. Likewise, some graduates of the SSES continued their education in
some respected schools, namely, Philippine Science High School, Rizal Science
High School and Pasig Science High School, and the University of the Philippines.

III. QUALIFICATION OF A SPECIAL SCIENCE LEARNER


To be included in the program, aspiring pupils should meet the following
requirements:

A. Grade One Qualifiers


1. Children of school age as per DepEd Order no. 3, s. 2018, who are:
a. completers of Kindergarten programs in DepEd accredited
schools and centers;
b. six years old and above by August 31 of the school year they
will enroll;
c. completers of any form of Kindergarten in non – DepEd
accredited learning and day-care centers, or home – schooled
learners;
d. Readers in both English and Filipino
e. With number recognition ability (can read and recognize
number 1 up to 100 or so)
f. Able to give details about self - identity
g. Qualifications of a pupil as mentioned in DepEd Order no. 57, s.
2011, stating that:
Grade 1 aspirants may come from the school implementing SSES Project
or from neighboring schools within the district and must satisfy the following
criteria:
 school readiness based on SReA (A pupil is considered ready if
he/she passes all domains)
 has preschool experience
 consent and willingness of parents. An agreement between the
schools and the parents shall be drafted and duly – signed for this
purpose
 Grade 1 aspirants satisfying the criteria shall undergo the final
screening consisting of school-based diagnostic test (BEE-SBA) and
interview which will be administered during the opening of school
year
2. Transferees from other public and private schools with the same
Qualifications mentioned above

B. Grade 2 - 6 Qualifiers
1. Pupils with general average not lower than 85%.
2. Qualifications of a pupil as mentioned in SPECIAL SCIENCE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS (SSES) PROJECT REVISED IMPLEMENTATION
GUIDELINES, stating that:
 Aspirants may come from the SSES implementing school or neighboring
schools and must satisfy the following criteria:
 Age requirement
 Performance in Grade I. The aspirant must be in the top 15 – 20%
(depending on the population) of his/her Grade I class based on the
general average (as certified by the school head)
 Consent and willingness of parents. An agreement between the schools
and the parents shall be drafted and duly – signed for this purpose

3. Transferees from other public and private schools with the same
Qualifications mentioned above
IV. ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Special Science Classes aspirants should undergo strict admission


procedures, and only those who passed the assessment will be accepted in the
program.

A. Qualifiers to the Special Science Classes should undergo the following


assessment stages:
1. Regional assessment, which will be administered by the regional committee
on education;
2. School assessment, which will be administered by the SSC advisers on a
scheduled date and time; and
3. Interview phase which will also be conducted by the SSC advisers right after
the school assessment is given.

a. Process Flow of Admission

1. There will be ten (10) examinees per


grade level assigned to each of the
START six (6) SSC Advisers to be assessed
per day.

2. Each examinee will be notified via text


or private message one week before the
scheduled date of assessment of the
following details:
a) Date and time of assessment
b) Name of examiner assigned
c) Things needed during the assessment
time
PRELIMINARIES d) Other concerns

3. NO other chance/consideration will be


given to the examinee should he/she be
absent on the date and time of his/her
assessment as there are still other
examinees to be accommodated in the list.

4. (Offline) The examinee is advised to go to


the designated room assigned to him or her
15 minutes before the scheduled time.
DURING THE TEST (Online) The examinee is advised to go
online at least 15 minutes before the
scheduled time of assessment for
confirmation of attendance and Preliminary
instructions.
5. (Offline) There is a designated proctor to
supervise the undertakings inside the testing
room.

(Online)To prevent discrepancy or leakage


of answers, the examinee is strictly Advised
to use HEADSET or EARPHONEs, a
WHITEBOARD, and a MARKER, and is
NOT ALLOWED to go anywhere on the
duration of the assessment.
DURING THE TEST
6. Parents, relatives, or other family
members are NOT ALLOWED to stay near
the testing room or examinee on the
duration of the assessment.

7. If the examinee is found to have a “coach”


dictating the answer to him/her, he/she will
be automatically disqualified and shall be
stopped from taking the assessment. No
other chances will be given to him/her as
other examinees are still on the waiting list.

INTERVIEW
8. Immediately after the written assessment,
the interview assessment will follow. The
examinee is advised to answer each
question with utmost honesty without any
assistance from any of the family members.

9. After all the assessments have been done


and other related information relayed to the
examinee, he/she is advised to leave with
END courtesy and respect to the examiner.

b. Result of Assessment
i. A notification message will be sent on the contact number provided by
the parent/guardian of the examinee informing him/her that he/she
passed the assessment for the SSC s/y 2020 - 2021.

Example: “Congratulations! This is to inform you that ( name of examinee)


Passed the assessment for the SSC taken last _________. “
ii. An official announcement of all passers of the Special Science Classes
Grades One – Six for school year 2020 – 2021 will be posted for wide
dissemination of the result.

iii. A list of all SSC passers shall be posted in the host school’s social media
Account for reference.

iv. The SSC advisers will then reach out to the parents/guardians of their
class via Text, private message or online platform, whichever is
applicable.

c. Agreement

Upon submission of all required documents of the SSC pupil at the opening
of classes, an agreement between the host school and the parents will be
signed. The agreement states the acceptance and willingness of the parent
that his/her child will stay in the SSES program and will not be allowed to
leave until the end of the school year provided that they are informed of the
terms and conditions of stay in the program stated in the REVISED SSES
IMPLEMENTATION GUIDELINES. These are as follows:

Retention in the Program


(Note: This should be covered by agreement between school and parents at start of
classes)

For a SSES pupil to remain the program he/she should satisfy the following:

1. General average of at least 85%, with no grade lower than 85% in English, Science,
Math and 83% in other learning areas for any grading period,
- Pupils who fail to meet this requirement despite remediation during the
school year shall be recommended for transfer to the regular program in the
succeeding school year.
2. Develops and continuously exhibits desired traits of SSES pupils (See list of these
traits)
- The teacher shall call the attention of the pupil (and the parent) who fails to
develop/exhibit desired traits.
 Checklist of these traits per individual pupil shall be used to monitor
each pupil (Subject area teachers should monitor)
- Reported recurring cases of pupils failing to develop/exhibit desired
character traits shall be discussed during a case conference with the
adviser, teachers, school head, parent, guidance and the pupil. No pupil
shall be recommended for transfer without a case conference.

3. Willingness of pupil and parent to remain in the program.


- Pupils or parents who are willing to remain in the program should abide by
the provisions covered by the agreement; otherwise, they shall be
transferred to the regular classes.
- Pupils or parents expressing intention to withdraw from the program shall put
into writing said intention. It is recommended that the reasons for the request
be discussed with the parent/pupil.

d. Transfer to the Program

- Transfer into the program shall be allowed only for incoming Grades 2 and
3 classes if slot(s) is/are available.

- Transferee(s) should undergo the same screening process. (see screening


for grades 4 and 6 entrants)

- Preference should be given to SSES pupils from other SSES classes if


they have not been disqualified from the program. Such pupils need not
undergo the screening process and may transfer into the program even after
grade3, if slot(s) is/are available.
