MODULE ASSIGNMENT 1
Status Check

Topic of Interest: Is there a correlation between excessive exposure to social media and the

quality of marriages?

Gap Statement: “The conclusions we can draw from this research are limited by our

data. We did not know, for example, the specific expectations of each spouse for the

marriage. It is possible that one or both partners in low-distress marriages that ended in

divorce had especially high expectations for a successful marriage. Similarly, either or

both spouses could have expected a high level of self-actualization or deep personal

fulfillment from the marriage, expectations not captured by the current survey instrument.

In addition, it would be useful to have interview items that reflect boredom with the

relationship.” (Amato & Hohmann-Marriott, 2007, p.636).

Personal Question(s):

1) How could I contact the Marriage & Family research pool?

2) How could I reach out to my Instructor? Is it you Sir Daniel Marston?

3) How can I get feedback on the “researchability” of this topic of interest?

4) Could I add other topics of interests in case this one is not viable? Other topics of interests

are:

1) What qualifies as “low-distress” vs “high-distress” relationships for dating

couples?

2) When is a relationship “worth fighting for” versus walking away?

That End in Divorce. Journal Of Marriage And Family, 69(3), 621-638. doi: 10.1111/

The authors used data from Waves 1 and 2 of the National Survey of Families and

Households to study high- and low-distress marriages that end in divorce. From there the authors

expanded and included a correlation between divorce and “attractions, barriers, and alternatives.”
