To clarify changes on MATHEMATICS FET ATP effected for 2023


and 2024

Grade Issues

• Number of teaching weeks for Probability, Finance and Statistics has been increased from two
weeks to three weeks as these topics were trimmed (COVID) in grade 9
• Increased teaching weeks of algebra in term 1 by one week to strengthen the teaching of
10 algebra
• Moved Euclidean Geometry from term 1 to term 2
• Moved Trigonometry from term 2 to term 1
• Number Patterns moved from term 2 to term 4 because it is being revised

• Number of teaching weeks for Probability and Finance has been increased from two weeks to
three weeks as these two topics were trimmed in grade 10 due trimmed ATP (COVID)
• Increased teaching weeks of algebra in term 1 by one week to strengthen the teaching of
algebra
11 • Moved Euclidean Geometry from term 1 to term 2
• Moved Trigonometry from term 2 to term 1
• Countingency tables were clarified as teachers better use them when teaching dependent and
independent events
Please note same topics in grades 10 and 11 are taught at the same time.

Grade Issues
• There were three formal tasks in term 1 and one formal task in term 2. One formal task,
Assignment, is moved from term 1 to term 2.
12 • There is June examination/test in Term 2.

Please note that there are two formal tasks in each term.

CONCLUSION

• The implementation of the Mathematics 2023-2024 ATP should be used


in conjunction with the FET Curriculum and Assessment Policy
Statement (CAPS).

• The approved textbooks by DBE are still very relevant for Mathematics
Grades 10 – 12.
